La Quinta Corporation, is a real estate investment trust (REIT) which invests primarily in hotels. The Company operates its hotels under the La Quinta brand. The Company also has investments in healthcare real estate. At December 31, 2000, the Company owned and operated an aggregate of 229 La Quinta Inns and 70 La Quinta Inn & Suites in 28 states with over 38,000 hotel rooms. La Quinta is a recognized brand name in the mid-priced lodging segment that appeals to both business and leisure travelers. La Quinta is a fully integrated lodging company that focuses on owning, operating, developing and franchising mid-priced hotels throughout the United States. On June 20, 2001, the Company changed its name from Meditrust Corporation to reflect its focus on the lodging industry. In January 2002, the Company merged with La Quinta Corporation, thereby becoming a subsidiary of La Quinta Corporation.
