Federated Department Stores, Inc., through its subsidiaries, is an operators of full-line department stores in the United States, with 397 department stores in 34 states, Puerto Rico and Guam as of February 2, 2002. The Company's subsidiaries operate 459 stores, including furniture galleries and other specialty stores, under the names Bloomingdale's, The Bon Marché, Burdines, Goldsmith's, Lazarus, Macy's and Rich's. The department stores sell a wide range of merchandise, including men's, women's and children's apparel and accessories, cosmetics, home furnishings and other consumer goods, and are diversified by size of store, merchandising character and character of community served. Most stores are located at urban or suburban sites, principally in densely populated areas across the United States. |
