The group's principal activity is to operate in two business segments: dish network and echostar technologies corporation. the dish network segment provides direct broadcast satellite (dbs) subscription television services to its subscribers. as on 31-dec-2001, the segment had 6.83 million subscribers. the group has seven dbs satellites in orbit that enables to provide over 500 video and audio channels, together with limited data services and high definition interactive tv services. the echostar technologies corporation segment designs, develops, distributes and sells echostar receiver systems that includes dbs set-top boxes, antennae and other digital equipment for the dish network. the group also designs, develops and distributes direct-to- home equipment for international satellite service providers. dish network accounted for 92% of 2001 revenues; Echostar technologies corporation, 5% and other, 3%.
