Banco de Chile (the Bank) is principally engaged in commercial banking in Chile, providing general banking services to a diverse customer base. The Bank delivers financial products and services through a nationwide network of 256 branches, 682 ATMs and other electronic distribution channels. As a full-service financial institution, the Bank provides, directly and indirectly through its subsidiaries and affiliates, a wide variety of credit and non-credit products and services to all segments of the Chilean financial market. Its operations are organized in five principal divisions: large corporations, middle market banking, retail banking, international banking and treasury and money market operations, as well as in six non-banking financial service subsidiaries. On January 1, 2002, the Company merged with Banco de A. Edwards. As of March 31, 2002, Banco de Chile had total assets of $13.4 billion, loans outstanding for approximately $9 billion and deposits in excess of $8 billion. |
