A.O. Smith Corporation is a North American manufacturer of electric motors and water heating equipment. The Company, which serves customers worldwide, consists of two segments: Electrical Products and Water Systems. A. O. Smith's electric motor business manufactures fractional horsepower alternating current (A/C) and direct current (D/C), hermetic and integral horsepower motors for a wide range of applications. The Water Systems segment manufactures residential gas and electric water heaters, standard and specialty commercial water heating equipment, copper tube boilers, hot water storage tanks and pump tanks. In December 2001, the Company acquired State Industries, Inc., a privately held manufacturer of water heaters.
