The principal activity of the group is to market pharmaceutical, fine and industrial chemicals. the group's business is organized into five segments. the agrochemicals segment sells herbicides, fungicides and insecticides. the chemicals and colorants segment sells specialty chemicals used in adhesives, coatings and cosmetics, in addition to dyes and pigment intermediates. the pharmaceuticals, biochemicals & nutritional segment sells the active ingredients for generic pharmaceuticals, vitamins and nutritional supplements. the pharmaceutical intermediates & custom manufacturing segment sells intermediates used in pharmaceutical manufacture. the institutional sanitary supplies & other segment's products are cleaning solutions, fragrances and deodorants. the group has operations in europe, south america and asia apart from the united states. biochemicals accounted for 43% of fiscal 2002 revenues; Industrials, 39%; Intermediates, 10%; Agrochemicals, 6% & supplies, 2%.
