Information collection
SingleShare.com is the sole owner of the information collected on SingleShare.com. We collect information from our users at several different points on our Web site.
Orders
We request information from the user on our order form. Purchasers must provide contact information (such as name, email and address) and financial information (such as credit card number and expiration date). This information is used for billing purposes and to fill customers' orders. If we have trouble processing an order, the information is used to contact the user.
Part of the product we provide is ownership of a single share of stock in a real U.S. corporation. The person for whom the product is being purchased must be registered on the books of the corporation, therefore we must collect information about the new shareholder (who may be different from the purchaser if the product is to be given as a gift). Either the purchaser or the shareholder must provide the shareholder's contact information (name and address), and U.S. tax status. If the shareholder is a minor under 18 years old, the name of an adult custodian must also be provided. The purchaser or shareholder may optionally provide the shareholder's Social Security Number, which we collect on behalf of the corporation whose stock is being purchased.
The information we collect in the order form about the purchaser and/or shareholder is used for the following purposes which ultimately result in delivery of our product:
- Billing of items ordered to purchaser.
- Transfer of share ownership to the new shareholder, and registration of shareholder on the books of the purchased corporation.
- Generation of a gift announcement to be given to shareholder in lieu of framed stock certificate when product cannot be delivered before a gift occasion.
- Contact of customer or shareholder to resolve billing, registration or shipping issues.
- Delivery or shipment of product.
Mailing lists
At various places on our website we invite users to subscribe to email lists that provide announcements about our services and promotions. We collect contact information that allows us to fulfill the subscribers' requests. We may also send announcements about other SingleShare.com products and promotions to these subscribers.
Contests and promotions
Certain contests and promotions on our website may require the user to provide contact information so that we may provide whatever award or benefit the user may be entitled to according to the terms of the contest or promotion. We may also send announcements about other SingleShare.com promotions and products to these users.
Cookies
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer tied to information about the user. We use both session ID cookies and persistent cookies. For the session ID cookie, once users close the browser, the cookie simply terminates. A persistent cookie is a small text file stored on the user's hard drive for an extended period of time. Persistent cookies can be removed by following Internet browser help file directions. See http://www.howstuffworks.com/cookie.htm for more information about Internet cookies.
We use session ID cookies to distinguish you from others who might be visiting our site simultaneously. This allows us to serve you information that is unique to you, such as your shopping cart contents.
We use persistent cookies to track and target interests of our users to enhance their overall site experience, such as showing news and product information we believe will be more relevant to you based on your past browsing or orders, or to prevent you from viewing the same background information repetitively.
If you have been referred to our site by a friend participating in our referral program, or by one of our business partners (such as an advertising medium or affiliate web site), we use a persistent cookie to track the source of the referral. This enables us to reward referral sources for their efforts and track the effectiveness of our advertising. We do not release personally identifiable information about you to these sources.
Third party advertising
We do not accept advertising on our website, however we offer links to external websites when appropriate. We do not provide any personally identifiable information about you to sites that we link to.
Log files
We log information about all connections to our web server, including internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser types, internet service providers (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform types, and date/time stamps to analyze trends, administer the site, track user movement in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. We do not use our log files to compile personally identifiable information.
Special offers and updates
Established customers, gift recipients, newsletter subscribers and contest or promotion participants will occasionally receive information on products, services, special deals, and/or a newsletter. Out of respect for the privacy of our users we present the option to not receive these types of communications. Please see the Choice/opt-out section.
Newsletter
If a user wishes to subscribe to our newsletter, we ask for contact information such as name and email address. Out of respect for our users privacy we provide a way to opt-out of these communications. Please see the Choice/opt-out section.
Service announcements
On rare occasions it is necessary to send out a strictly service-related announcement. For example, if our site is down for a significant period, we might send users with outstanding orders a notification. Users may not opt-out of these communications, however, they will be rare and non-promotional in nature.
Referral program
If a user elects to use our referral service for informing a friend about our site, we ask them for the friend's name and email address. SingleShare.com will automatically send the friend a one-time email inviting them to visit the site. SingleShare.com stores this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email and tracking the success of our referral program.
Customer service
We communicate with users on a regular basis to provide requested services and in regards to issues relating to their account we reply via email or phone, in accordance with the user's wishes.
Legal disclaimer
Though we make every effort to preserve user privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law wherein we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our Web site.
Aggregate information (non-personally identifiable)
At this time we do not accept advertising nor provide aggregated information about our users to third parties for promotional purposes.
Third party intermediaries
We use outside shipping companies to ship orders, and a credit card processing company to bill users for goods and services. These companies do not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.
Registration of shareholder on corporate books
Part of the product we provide is ownership of a single share of stock in a real U.S. corporation. For dividend payments, annual reports and other communications, and for tax reporting purposes, corporations must know who their shareholders are. In order to transfer stock ownership to the individual(s) named in a customer's order, we provide the new shareholder's contact information (name, address and, if provided, Social Security Number) to the corporation whose stock is being purchased or the corporation's registrar or transfer agent. Contact information for the corporation or registrar or transfer agent to whom personal information is divulged may be obtained by contacting our customer service department.
Business transitions
In the event SingleShare.com goes through a business transition, such as a merger, being acquired by another company, or selling a portion of its assets, users' personal information will, in most instances, be part of the assets transferred. Users will be notified via email and prominent notice on our Web site for 30 days prior to a change of ownership or control of their personal information. If as a result of the business transition, the users' personally identifiable information will be used in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection they will be given choice consistent with our notification of changes section.
Our order form has an 'opt-out' mechanism so users who buy a product from us may elect to receive no promotional communications.
Users who have been given our product as a gift, subscribed to a mailing list, or entered a contest or promotion, and no longer wish to receive our newsletter or promotional communications, may opt-out of receiving these communications by replying to the promotional emails with "unsubscribe" in the subject line in the email or emailing us at unsubscribe@singleshare.com. The user may also contact us via phone or postal mail to opt-out.
This Web site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that we, SingleShare.com, are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every Web site that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by SingleShare.com.
This Web site takes every precaution to protect our users' information. When users submit sensitive information via the Web site, their information is protected both online and off-line.
When our order form asks users to enter sensitive information (such as credit card number and/or social security number), that information is encrypted and is protected with the best encryption software in the industry - SSL. While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to un-locked, or open, when users are just 'surfing'. To learn more about SSL, visit http://www.howstuffworks.com/encryption.htm.
We do not store credit card numbers and expiration dates on our servers. When an order form is submitted, the information is passed directly to our credit card processor, Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. Of the information returned to us by the bank, only transaction codes are saved, not the credit card number.
When social security numbers are provided, we store them on our servers only long enough to fulfill the customer's order. We purge the database that stores these numbers at least weekly of any social security numbers related to completed orders.
While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also do everything in our power to protect user-information off-line. Access to all of our users' information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted to employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, our billing clerk or a customer service representative). Physical access to work areas where customers' personally identifiable information might be obtained is restricted to personnel authorized to access the information. All employees are kept up-to-date on our security and privacy practices.
Our servers are managed by NTT/Verio, the world's largest web hosting service. NTT/Verio provides state-of-the-art security and maintenance for our servers, including locked facilities; continuous monitoring for hacking attempts; plus redundant backups, power supplies, and Internet connections. Whenever we access our servers at NTT/Verio for any purpose, we use an encrypted Internet connection.
Users with questions about the security of our website may direct inquiries to webmaster@singleshare.com.
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes to this privacy statement, the homepage, and other places we deem appropriate so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
If, however, we are going to use users' personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection we will notify users via email. Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. However, if users have opted out of all communication with the site, or deleted/deactivated their account, then they will not be contacted, nor will their personal information be used in this new manner. In addition, if we make any material changes in our privacy practices that do not affect user information already stored in our database, we will post a prominent notice on our Web site notifying users of the change. In some cases where we post a notice we will also email users, who have opted to receive communications from us, notifying them of the changes in our privacy practices.
Nothing in the document "SingleShare.com Terms and Conditions of Use," by which you agree to be bound when using our site and/or ordering our products and services, shall be invalidated by anything in this privacy statement. If the two documents conflict on any point, the Terms and Conditions shall take precedence over the privacy statement.
